Through a subjective lens, this autoethnographic film explores the phenomena of the ‘everyday’ through the practice of window watching. This is specifically done from the personal space of my bedroom in Prince Edward, Hong Kong. During the fourt h wave of the coronavirus pandemic, video material and soundscapes for this film were recorded through an iPhone from the sixth floor of an old building in lower Ki Lung Street. While the visual footage shows what is immediately visible beyond the glass window - which acts as a border between the public and the private - the sound explores what is not visible in the shots. In an attempt to braid together the duality of the public and the private, sounds from both of these spaces are juxtaposed onto the footage gathered. The videos, sound and text are layers that melt together to reproduce parts of my everyday experience. These experiences are how I relate to my neighbors, their traces, and the space I live in. We are strangers to this day but the soundscape that enters both our private spaces act as a reminder that we share and make Ki Lung Street what it is.

RADONCIC Dino

Dino Radončić, born 1994 in St. Gallen (CH), lives and works in St. Gallen/Zürich (CH).

He studied Design at the Zurich University of Arts (ZHdK) and is currently in the Masters Program of Transdisciplinary in the Arts (ZHdK). Dino Radončić is supported by the Ernst Göhner Study foundation for young artists. The center of his practice is always based around the human and it’s supposedly mundane and boring everyday life. Through (auto)ethnographic field research that he uses as a method, he will always be found in the field, specifically where routines of the everyday happen: at crosswalks, in trains or surrounded by his very private space. He translates his observations into video works, performances, or objects. No trace of human life is ever too small or worthless to not to listen to its personal, historical or cultural stories and manifestations.
